Many of our offices hold an annual Beacon of Hope Dinner and Charity Auction that raises money to support CHP\’s Patient Care Fund.

Community Health Professionals (CHP) will hold its annual Beacon of Hope Dinner and Charity Auction on March 23 at the Defiance Eagles Aerie.
The event benefits hospice patients and their families in Defiance County. Dinner is at 6 p.m. with the auction at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 each.
“There are still plenty of tickets available,” said Rhonda Leininger of CHP Hospice of Defiance County. “Table reservations need to be made right away.”

“The Beacon of Hope event raises funds for hospice,” Leininger said. “It also is a celebration of life for the family of patients.”
Last year’s event raised $12,273.72, and event organizers are hoping to raise that much or more this year.
The Beacon of Hope will include live and silent auctions, door prizes and a 50/50 auction. Donations for auction items are still being accepted as well.
Among some of the items donated for the benefit include: a Firekeepers Casino and Resort getaway, Lazy Boy recliner, Sauder Village package and stay, above-ground 15-foot metal framed pool with accessories, Rising Star Casino & Resort stay, Kalahari package, trip to Dearborn, Mich., Cincinnati Zoo and Reds ticket package and some special items from the Defiance Police Department and Defiance Fire Department.
“This year the Defiance Police Department and Defiance Fire Department are donating a pedal police car and pedal fire engine,” Rhonda said. “Those we will do as a bidding war. … We did it a few years ago when the fire department donated one. The police department this year decided to step it up and get theirs customized.”
Leininger praised everyone who has donated to the event so far.
“We have more getaway packages than we’ve ever had,” she said. “Lynn Sheets, who helped with the inpatient center furniture, donated a recliner.”
Ken’s Furniture (which is owned by Sheets) and the Northwestern Ohio Board of Realtors will be honored during the Beacon of Hope with the Friends of Hospice Award. The two organizations were able to raise funds and purchase furniture for hospice rooms, as well as for the lobby at the in-patient hospice center last year.
Leininger said the Beacon of Hope dinner and support from the community are instrumental to the CHP Inpatient Hospice Center and home hospice.
“We are a nonprofit organization,” she said. “Without the support of the community, we couldn’t fulfill our mission of home, health and hospice. I don’t think people really know what their support means to us. It means the world.”
Hospice care is covered by Medicare, Medicaid, and most insurance plans. However, we receive a set rate per day, per patient for nursing care, equipment, medications, and supplies. Sometimes the reimbursement we receive does not meet all the costs we incur – like if a patient requires a medication or service that’s not included in their benefits. The CHP Patient Care Fund helps fulfill these needs. Each year, our patient care fund pays for hundreds of thousands of dollars in uncovered patient care expenses throughout our service area.
