Managing grief is hard for people of any age, but it can be especially complex for children and teens. Whether it’s grief from losing a parent, a relative, or a friend, it’s important for kids to have support from others with a sympathetic ear and words of encouragement.

That’s what CHP’s Rays of Hope Camps provide. This year, CHP Home Care and Hospice is offering Rays of Hope Camps at two locations:

  • Van Wert: June 27-29, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily at YMCA Camp Clay, 9196 Liberty-Union Rd.
  • Fayette: Aug. 1-2, 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily at 4-H Camp Palmer, 26450 CR Mn.

The camp is for children and youth, who are dealing with grief issues related to the loss of someone with whom they were close. Campers will be separated into age-appropriate groups and led by CHP Hospice staff and volunteers trained to help with children’s loss issues.

Camp events help participants gain support and have a better understanding of the grief process. Activities are designed for children to connect with others their age with similar experiences, find safe and creative ways to voice thoughts and feelings, nurture memories, build confidence and self-worth, play, laugh, cry, and feel a sense of normalcy.

Both Rays of Hope camps are FREE with lunch and snacks provided, but participants MUST pre-register.
